Stop What You are Doing! Call Home!

Stop sign covered in kudzu. Pen, ink and acrylic ink illustration by James McInvale, jamesmcinvaleillustration.com

Until our son moved out for college and then to live on his own, I never grasped how much it meant to my parents to get a phone call or letter from me. That was a huge revelation. (I’m sorry momma!) They wanted to hear from me because they loved me; they were interested in everything I did because they cared. But that never dawned on me. I was too busy with me. Until James.

When he was in college, James called when he was bored. He called when his fiancée reminded him. He texted with questions. But usually, he called right before he knew I was going to call him to ask if he was still breathing. I didn’t care, as long as he was communicating and as long as I knew he was thinking about me once in a while.

You know where this is going, don’t you? Yes, go call your momma! Your children. Those you care about. Communicate! Nurture your relationships. But, most important – first go call your Heavenly Father.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;

for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – NIV

Christ loves us and He longs to hear from us, exactly like parents want to hear from their children. He wants to hear from us every single day in all the circumstances of our lives. He wants to know that we care as much about Him as He cares about us.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

Jeremiah 29:12 - NIV

I think that next week we will talk more about how to connect with our Lord. But right now – just go call Him!! The hot line to God is always open!

Hugs and blessings,

Dear Lord, I love You so much. Please forgive me for not calling You more often. I promise that this week I will do better! Amen.

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK

Call Home and spend time with Christ every day this week –

any way you choose. Just do it!
